BOMI Designation, Training and Certificate Programs

BOMI Canada (Building Owners and Managers Institute) is a non profit organization that develops and provides education programs for commercial property professionals. There are 4 recognized designation programs:

  • The Real Property Administrator (RPA®) for property managers;
  • The Facilities Management Administrator (FMA®) for facilities professionals;
  • The Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT®) for systems personnel;
  • The Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA®) for systems supervisors.

In addition, BOMI administers the following Certificate programs:

  • Property Administrator Certificate (PAC);
  • Building Systems Maintenance Certificate (SMC);
  • Facilities Management Certificate (FMC); and
  • Property Management Financial Proficiency Certificate (PMFP).

BOMA NB is pleased to offer Floor Measurement Training and Certification through BOMA Calgary.  

Floor Measurement Training

BOMA Calgary offers training through their online seminar course for anyone who is new to the BOMA International Floor Measurement Standards.  The online seminar course takes approximately 3 hours and will give you a solid foundation in the principles of floor measurement.  To start your training today, please go here.  

Floor Measurement Certification

In partnership with World ICU, BOMA Calgary has developed the Floor Measurement Self-Assessment.  If you would like to be certified and are a measurement professional, this online assessment will assess your current knowledge level and will identify areas that require further training.  For more information, please read the following document.  If you successfully complete the competencies within the self-assessment, you do not need to take the online course.  Upon completion of the self-assessment, you are now eligible for validation of those skills by a BOMA Calgary approved Validator.  Validators set their own fees for this third-party review.

The BOMA e-Energy training program is designed to enable building operations personnel to understand basic energy principles, identify energy reduction opportunities, develop strategies and influence stakeholders to adopt energy saving behaviours.  The program highlights operational energy management opportunities, as well as those available through capital projects. BOMA BESt
 (Building Environmental Standards) is a national program launched in 2005 by BOMA Canada to address an industry need for realistic standards for energy and environmental performance of existing buildings based on accurate, independently verified information.

Today, BOMA BESt has evolved from simply identifying key best practices to providing common standards; an array of educational and on-line assessment tools; and a four-level performance certification program.

The certification is available for six specific building types:

  • Offices
  • Shopping Centres
  • Open Air Retail Plazas
  • Light Industrial Buildings
  • *New* Multi-Unit Residential Buildings
  • *New* Health Care Facilities
