This month’s Member spotlight: we got to hear from ALL-TECH Environmental Services Limited – Melanie Bond, Business Development Manager

How many years have you been in this business?

16+ with ALL-TECH (Atlantic) and 10 years prior as an air quality technician at NB Research & Productivity Council (RPC), Fredericton, NB

Why did you join BOMA?

Networking opportunities.

What's one thing - either industry-related or not - you learned in the last month?

How to set boundaries and to practice self-care, which is still a work in progress!

What educational or business experiences best prepared you for your career?

I graduated from UNB as a chemist, which helped me procure my first job at RPC, and then through connections made and experience gained I took on the BD role with ALL-TECH.

It has my personality that has carried me this far.  I am a people person and I think that is what makes me good at my job, honestly, I think that is the most important trait I have.

What advice would you give to professionals coming in to the commercial industry?

Don’t give up, be persistent and consistent.  Say what you are going to do and follow through.

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be and why?

Cliché but …. Don’t sweat the small stuff and it is all small stuff.

What's your favourite movie and why?

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, and I watch it every year.  Clark Griswold is my hero; he gets beat down around every turn and he never gives up. It makes me laugh every time I watch it (with “rye-nog” of course).

If you could have dinner with someone famous (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

Not famous, but more important to me, my grandmother.  She died a few years ago at 99 and I spent a lot of time with her growing up.  I would just really like to see her again and hear her voice.

How do you define success?

When people remember your name and have good things to say.
